Alisha was Cownapped!

Posted in Greyhounds on March 3, 2009 by nikethehound

Alisha Moocow is my favorite and bestest stuffie in the whole world. We play together, we sleep together, there isn’t much we don’t do together.. Can you imagine if your bestest friend was Cownapped? Here’s Alisha Moocow and I’s story.

That’s right you heard it here… My very own Alisha Moocow was Cownapped.  I woke up two days ago to the screaming of Alisha Moocow:

My Momma had Cownapped her. First she dunked her into a sinkfull of soapy water. Then she took a brush and brushed her until I thought her head was going to fall off! Couldn’t Momma hear her screams? The next thing Momma did was tie a rope around her neck and Hanged Alisha.

The Strangulation

The Strangulation

The horror of it. I cried and cried. Momma left her hanging in the bathroom ALL NIGHT. My poor Alisha could not scream her pain, but I know she was suffering. I could not cuddle with Alisha Moocow and kept a vigil over her through the night, hoping she would not die.

When I woke up this morning Momma released Alisha from the grips of death, little did I know that more torture was abound. I begged and pleaded with her  and Daddyman to return my beloved Alisha Moocow to me. They did not. Momma took her to the basement of DOOM, laughing maniacally the whole time.  Then I heard it.. The wet box (washing machine) start up. My poor Alisha was being DROWNED after being hanged… Was Momma done yet? OF course not. After the wet box hollered that it had done its best to drown Alisha, it had failed in its task. So Momma went back down to the Basement of Doom and threw Alisha into the HOT BOX! She left her in there forever to be burned to a cinder. Well, I guess since she had been in the wet box it saved her life, the hot box too had failed in it’s evil plot to destroy my Alisha Moocow.

Alisha, thankfully was rescued, a story to be told another day, but has been returned back into my loving care. I shall nurse her back to good health, drag her through the dirt, and stuff that smells good and cuddle with her. Never shall she be Cownapped and Tortured again!

Recovered and on the mend. Alisha and Nike

Recovering and Reunited, Me and Alisha Moocow

I am very relieved to have her back with me and shall sleep soundly tonight. This is a very important lesson for all you hounds out there! Keep your stuffies close, lest they be cownapped as well… Sleep with one eye open tonight.

A day in the Life

Posted in Greyhounds with tags on February 24, 2009 by nikethehound

Most days are pretty quiet here in my forever home with my Momma and my Daddyman.  When Daddyman’s alarm goes off it’s time for me to jump out of bed and give him kisses to get him moving. Once Daddyman is moving I give Momma some kisses and tell her it’s time for my morning walk and brekkie (breakfast for those of you that don’t speak hound).  After I eat my brekkie all gone Daddyman goes to his work job and I find a spot on the couch for my morning nap.

After a good nap it’s time for my afternoon walks and chase the EVIL kitty down to the basement where he will not swat at my tail for doing my zoomies in the living room. I throw the slipper I stole from Momma all around and even play with my brother Rock when the grumpy old guy will chase me. After all that work it’s time for another nap another walk and then Momma gets the treats out.

Treats? Yep. She asks me to do all sorts of things like Sit, and when my backside almost touches the floor I get a treat. This my exercising regimen.  (I say almost.. have you ever seen my thighs? It just wont let my backside actually hit ground.)

This is Really Hard for a Houndie of my Stature

Sometimes we work on trickier things like “Wait” which means that when Momma puts her shoes on don’t jump on her. I used to get all jumpy when her shoes went on her feet because that means I’m going for a walk.. and those can sometimes be scary. Sometimes I remember to wait, othertimes I forget and get all happy. Momma says I bounce like a bunny.

After we do our exercising its time for an afternoon stroll. I get to sniff and leave pee mail for the dogs in the neighborhood. Then its time for, you guessed it, another nap until Daddyman gets home from his work job.

When Daddyman gets home I’m allowed to bunny hop and wrestle with him after he says hello to Momma. He should be sayin Hello to ME first. I suppose I can allow him to say hi to Momma first, after all, he wrestles with me and loves on me most of the rest of the night.

We settle in and watch some TV, go for another walk and go to bed. Tomorrow I will tell some of the adventures I had when I was a jail hound!

Wags,

Since I do not know all the details prior to my Homecoming, here is the story by my Momma.

About 4 years ago I was in college and had to write a speech (loads of fun) I was having a hard time figuring out a topic for this speech…. Finally I turned to something I needed to research for my personal life if I was going to be serious about it- Greyhound Adoption! After a few weeks of pestering several organizations to speak with them about their organization and getting no replies, I got a hold of a gentlemen in Team Greyhound of Ohio who was more than happy to speak with me about the organization and the dogs in general. Not only was he willing and able to speak with me, he WORKS at the school I was attending- Talk about convenient!

Fast Forward-two and a half years later-I’m married and settled into my life after school- as much as can be as a newly wed anyway-Jeff and I have been talking for a year about adding a dog to the household. It took a lot of convincing to turn him to the “Grey Side”! No matter how much I talked and raved about a greyhound, he said no, I want a Great Dane. No matter what I could show him with my years of research always, NO. One day he was out working in the field. A neighbor in the area let her Greys out in the yard for a romp. Jeff was impressed. Three days later hes taking me over there and knocking on a complete strangers door to talk about their greyhounds. Not long after they realized we weren’t a threat, we were in the backyard with the greys, and low and behold, hubby fell in love.

Fast forward 2 weeks later- Sitting on the porch with Jeff enjoying the mild summer we were having, he asks me what I want for my birthday. My reply, “Honestly?” He nods. “A greyhound.”

Within 20 minutes of that conversation I was pulling up TGAO, Inc’s website and filling out the application, looking up their next meet and greet and getting the ball rolling. We show up at the meet and greet (which is also scheduled on my birthday) and low and behold I run into the same gentleman that I interviewed for my speech. (I got an A btw) Through our conversation that afternoon, I found out he is the VP of TGAO and he REMEMBERS me and the interview!

Here we are now a month past my birthday, and we are off to Prison to meet some potential home bound pups. All of the pups we met were great dogs. I could have taken them all home with me if I could have. Hubby and I decided to sleep on it before we talked about any of the dogs we saw. We were pretty much won over by one grey in particular. A little brindle female. Every time we talked about a prospective new addition, we kept returning to Dunk. Dunk, ever so slight, yet full of personality and presence…. Dunk.. Dunk.. Dunk was the dog we fell in love with, felt the most connected to. Even still, we made the decision to meet a couple of the dogs that TGAO picked out for us that were out of prison and in foster homes. So we waited some more and I went out to another meet n greet and met a couple other hounds, making sure we chose the grey that’s best suited to our home, and who we connected with. As sweet, laid back, beautiful, and happy as the greys I met that day were, not one of them held a candle to sweet little Dunk. After coming home from the meet and greet. Jeff came home and asked how it went. Within the hour I was emailing the VP of TGAO and asking him when we could schedule a time to Parole sweet little Dunk. Dunk was paroled and in her forever home on August 24, 2008. After three days home, Jeff and I renamed Dunk to Nike. Dunk is part of Nike’s Racing name. Here is a copy of her pedigree: Nike’s Pedigree.

Nike greets all bloggers!

Hello World,

Nike here. I am a 3 year old greyhound. Early in my life I raced for a living. My career was short. At the age of 2.5 years old I was retired and have moved in with a loving family. My family consists of a 10 year old chihuahua, Rock, 4 finches with no names, and a 3 year old EVIL Persian kitty, Gabriel.  Of course, there are my humans, my Momma, Lily and my Daddyman, Jeff.  I prefer the company of my Momma, but when it comes to play time, no one does it better than my Daddyman!

I moved in with my forever family on August 24, 2008. I am still learning the ropes of being a retired racer, but have found that my calling leads me to the comfort of couches and beds about the house as often as I can find room. I have all but ruled the roost around here, if I can just catch that evil kitty, all will be right with the world.

This is Me at the Park.

This blog serves as my interpretation of the world. My Human Mom may interject or find words for me, but for the most part this is my perception of the world around me.

I will tell the story of my homecoming later. For now, I just wanted to make my introduction.

Nike The Hound.
